Instrument Rating (IR)

What is an Instrument Rating?

The Instrument Rating allows pilots to operate aircraft in low-visibility environments, such as heavy cloud cover or rain. The flight lessons in our course provide pilots the knowledge to rely solely on instruments to navigate the aircraft in situations where they cannot rely on visual instincts. The Instrument Rating is essential for any pilot looking to improve flight safety and proceed with their pursuit of a career in flying.

Below is an estimate of costs based on industry norms & the FAA's minimum required experience:

Aircraft Fee: $165 / hour

Instructor Fee (Air): $60 / hour

  • 40 hours of flight * ($170)  = $6,800
  • 40 hours of flight instruction * ($60) = $2,400
  • Ozark Aviation Ground School = $300
  • FAA Written Exam Fee = $150
  • FAA Practical Test (Checkride) = $500

 - The number of hours required to obtain enough competency for a Checkride varies depending on factors such as how regular the student flies, an individual's pace of  learning, study habits, etc.*

There is no such thing as bad weather, only different kinds of good weather
